Job Description Allocates jobs to, and supervises the activities of the C/H mechanics, mechanics and other artisans under his control. b) Personally diagnoses faults and carries out tasks that are outside the capability or scope of his subordinates. c) Ensures that the spare parts necessary for the plant, equipment and machinery on the vessel are maintained at optimum levels, without undue overstocking. d) Ensures manufacturer’s maintenance procedures/service frequencies are complied with and that only recommended fuels and lubricants are used. e) Ensures that work areas are kept clean and that safe working practices are employed. f) Maintains appropriate records of work done and consumables used. g) Carries out on-the-job training of subordinates on a continuous programme and initiates assessment reports as requested by the Offshore Plant Engineers for administrative purposes. h) Ensures operators abide by established/safe operating procedures and practices and equipment is used within predetermined capacities. i) Proposes and prepares scope of required major work on idle plant, equipment and vessels installations. Liaises with Offshore Plant Engineers for the procurement of the required parts & material/assists in planning/executing/monitoring and supervising the “NPCC” or subcontracted work. j) Deputises for the Chief Mechanic and in the cases of smaller vessels / jackups, he is the Acting Chief Mechanic on board, on permanent basis.

Skills Required To ensure implementation, supervise or personally carry out planned & scheduled preventive maintenance and repair of the plant & equipment necessary for the continuous, efficient, economical & safe operation of the Company’s vessels, during all modes of operation to which he is assigned when working offshore. To ensure maximum equipment availability/minimum disruption of operations by following established/manufacturer’s procedures and by liaising with operations team. Secondary school 12 years education followed by trade school training in mechanical, air conditioning and electrical maintenance equivalent to one year full time, and 10-12 years diversified experience in related offshore construction machinery, equipment & installations maintenance/repairs, including at least one year in a supervisory position/ability to interpret technical drawings.
